September is here, our annual Rare Plant Fair is behind us, and Summer is beginning to draw to a close. The wonders of Autumn are already beginning to shine through in the Gardens with fungi adorning tree stumps, blackberries in the hedgerows and auburn leaves already making a magical appearance.
Not only are there plenty of seasonal changes unfolding at Tremenheere, there’s a wonderful range of new exhibitions and upcoming events too. From a special show and book launch of the late Romi Behrens, to another ever-popular Skyspace at Dusk, expect a month of art, poetry, music and guided garden explorations.
Romi Behrens: A Painting Life, Lower gallery, 13th September – 5th October
Following a successful retrospective in 2018, Tremenheere Gallery again presents an exhibition of paintings by Romi Behrens (1939 – 2019).
This exhibition coincides with the publication of the first substantial monograph on the artist, providing a selected but characteristically diverse range of visual and written material from the artist’s portfolio and archive.
On Thursday 12th September, 6 – 8pm, join us for an exhibition preview and the launch of the book, when author Rachel Rose Smith will be present and available to personally sign copies. No need to RSVP – all welcome.
Women Talking: Paintings by Janet Lynch and poetry by Ellen Phethean, Upper gallery, 13th September – 5th October
This project brings together two people who want to have a conversation about what it is to be a woman; artist Janet Lynch and poet Ellen Phethean.
Ellen is a life-long writer with a distinct voice, whose poems explore the older woman’s place in contemporary culture. Janet, now 84, is a painter whose work is full of life that genuinely springs forth from her brush, this current way of working represents a new way of approaching her creativity.
On Tuesday 24th September, 4 – 6pm, Janet and Ellen will discuss their work and Ellen will read selected poems. No need to RSVP – all welcome.
Second Nature – Until this Saturday (7th), 11am – 4pm
