Violin, Garden, Sky at Tremenheere 🎻✨

A two-part concert in light and landscape - THIS Friday 4th July, 5pm

Violinist Peter Sheppard Skærved returns for the second performance in his three-part series at Tremenheere. The evening begins at 5pm in the Skyspace, with music by Telemann, Ortiz, and Nigel Clarke, works written to evoke vast landscapes and quiet memory.

At 6.30pm, the gallery hosts the second concert, featuring the UK premieres of Clarke’s Flemish Brush miniatures and Jim Aitchison’s Apertures, a new solo work responding to James Turrell’s Skyspace. This intimate evening of music, art, and light invites deep listening and reflection, grounded in both place and practice.

The third and final performance in the series takes place on Friday 5th September.

We speak with Alastair and Fleur Mackie @alastairandfleurmackie about the curation of AFTERIMAGE, their thought-provoking new group exhibition at #TremenheereGallery.

Through site-responsive works and ephemeral interventions preserved in photographs, the exhibition invites a slower, more attentive way of seeing. In this conversation, the curators reflect on impermanence, observation, and the role of photography as both artwork and evidence.

What inspired the concept of AFTERIMAGE?

The idea for AFTERIMAGE comes from an interest in works that are circumstantial, site-responsive, and often impermanent, yet preserved through photographic record. We were thinking about what an artwork can leave behind - not just physically, but perceptually - the way a moment lingers in the mind’s eye. In this sense, the “afterimage” becomes both metaphor and method: the work itself may vanish, but the trace it leaves becomes the artwork...
