Nothing at All – A theme for the new season

A message from Tremenheere’s director and founder, Neil Armstrong:

“As opening for our new season quickly approaches, we thought you might like to hear what’s on offer and the news that this year we have decided to feature… Nothing at All!

No… not a vacuous nothingness but a profound and elegant slice of negative space which we hope will entrance and delight.

To explain… our gardeners and tree surgeons have been busy selectively sculpting the woodland canopy to create an immersive experience with light and atmosphere. Sunny glades sparkle with slanting shafts of light… shadows dance silently on the woodland floor and unexpected vistas startle and intrigue. The sounds of bamboo and trees rustling. the busy stream, the fleeting scents and shelter of the woodland. all create the intangible sense of atmosphere and calm. It is this seductive and quiet beauty which captures our soul.

The Japanese as ever are far ahead of us and describe the Ma phenomenon – the space between. Mindful of the beauty of silence the Ma concept can refer to pauses or breaks in conversation, the silence between notes in music , the “empty” space in a painting . In our garden we present the opportunity to experience the spaces as enhancing the enjoyment of the plants and artworks.

All elements have more room to “breathe” – to be appreciated and be lit in unexpected ways. We hope this will lead to an unrushed appreciation of the garden in a reflective ,calming state of mind.

Oh… as well as our Nothing at All special feature… there have also been very significant new landscaping works, new planting  and sculptures.”
