Last week, we said goodbye to MICHAEL the Angel of Peace and Reconciliation, an art project by Reinhard Pontius (@atelier_fuer_bildhauerei).
Since April, we’ve been honoured to have ‘Michael, the angel of peace’ stay with us at Tremenheere as part of a journey that began in 2020. The tour through Germany ended in Autumn 2022 at the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig, before the tour through Europe began.
He’s now arrived at his new location in Belgium, between Dunkirk and Bruges at Vladslo cemetery near Diksmuide. The cemetery holds the graves of more than 25000 German casualties of the First World War.
After Belgium Michael will be on site for the Remembrance events 80 years on from D-day landings in Normandy on 6th June 2024 “a momentous occasion to celebrate peace, liberty and reconciliation”
