As James Turrell unveils his newest Skyspace in Denmark, a recent @financialtimes article reflects on the artist’s lifelong exploration of light, perception and the act of looking.

Known around the world for works that transform our experience of space and sky, Turrell describes his practice simply: “I paint with light.”

Here at Tremenheere, visitors can experience two of his installations: Tewlwolow Kernow, a Skyspace that frames the ever-changing Cornish sky, and Aqua Oscura, a contemplative work housed within a former Victorian water tank.

Together, they invite us to slow down, look carefully, and experience light not simply as illumination, but as a medium in itself.

One exhibition ends and another begins! ✨

You’re invited to the opening of Holy Animals Sacred Plants: Responses to Other Lives, curated by Kate Walters, at Tremenheere Gallery.

Join us on Thursday 11 June, 6–8pm, for the opening of this new exhibition bringing together the work of ten artists across painting, drawing, textiles, mixed-media, film and text.

Exploring relationships with animals, plants, dreams and the quieter forms of awareness that shape our lives, the exhibition invites visitors to consider different ways of listening and responding to the more-than-human world.

The opening event is free to attend and all are welcome. No booking or RSVP is required.

Carers Week began today and runs until 14 June.

At Tremenheere, carers already receive free entry throughout the year when accompanying the person they care for. During @carers_week, we are extending this invitation by offering free entry to carers visiting on their own.

Whether it’s a gentle walk through the gardens, time spent in the gallery, or simply a quiet moment amongst the planting, we hope Tremenheere can offer a space to pause, rest and recharge.

The gardens, shop and nursery are open as usual throughout the week, and Tremenheere Kitchen will be serving breakfasts, lunches, coffees and cakes daily.

With warm wishes to all carers, and our thanks for the invaluable contribution you make every day.

From sketchbook studies made outdoors to expressive paintings created in the studio, @ginibounds’ work is deeply rooted in observation, place and the experience of painting from life 🌿

As part of Tir ha Trig, the current exhibition featuring Virginia Bounds alongside @judy.buxton, we look back at her time as Artist in Residence at Tremenheere and explore how the gardens, surrounding landscape and years spent at Anchor Studio in Newlyn have informed her practice.

“Whether she is painting flowers, hills, or woodland, she feels them as a profound experience of colour, composition and marks and situates them firmly in a sense of place.” - @marieclairehamon
