A New Immersive Way to Experience Art at Tremenheere

Something very exciting has been in creation over the past few months and it will cast Tremenheere into a brand new dimension.

We’re delighted to announce our experimental collaboration with Falmouth University which will help our visitors to see art in a new immersive way with Augmented Reality. With the help of the Arts and Humanities Research Council, this is an exciting project that will attract new visitors and enhance the experience of all those who visit Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens.

Falmouth University researchers, including Professor of Digital Games Tanya Krzywinska have developed a custom phone-based app using Augmented Reality technology for the Gardens in collaboration with three artists; Penny Florence, Seamus Moran and Jonathan Kearney.

The app “The Mystery of Art” reveals location-based digital sculpture using Augmented Reality that will give visitors of all ages the chance to jump into a whole new digital dimension with the sculpture. Using a phone, visitors can reveal the work in situ as they travel around the gardens.

Join us this weekend for the unveiling of the research and immersive AR-enhanced app will be revealed for the very first time. This showcase event will take place from 11am-4pm on the 24th, 25th and 26th of March 2023 at Tremenheere Gallery.

On Saturday 25th March 2023,1.30-4pm, there will be short talks from some of the artists involved. You will also have an opportunity to try out some new immersive technologies with Falmouth’s Immersive Business specialists.

The show also includes examples of recent Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality artwork, supported by the Immersive Business team, with Newlyn Society Artists Kate Walters, Simon Averill, Andrew Litton, Michelle Ohlson, Patricia Wilson-Smith & Tanya Krzywinska.

You can book tickets for the event via Eventbrite here.

We’d very much like you to download the app to your phone or iPad before you come. You can search ‘The Mystery of Art’ or use the following links.

GooglePlay version for Android phones can be downloaded here.

The IoS (iPhone/IPad) version can be downloaded here

It would also be very helpful to download the Artivive app (available for both IoS and Android phones). This will allow you to see the AR overlays on the paintings in the show. Search for ‘Artivive’.

Stay tuned for an interview with Tanya Krzywinska, Penny Florence, Seamus Moran and Jonathan Kearney. They will discuss how the app will enhance visitor experience and why they chose certain areas of the gardens to work with, and the inspiration behind their responses.
